Let your soul breathe...

Simplicity, authenticity, elegance and comfort.

Closer than you think, surrounded by 360° mountain views, is this sanctuary in the Little Karoo. Choose your favourite view from a selection of five self-catering farm cottages. You are welcome to bring your pets by prior arrangement.

All cottages have fully equipped kitchens as well as outdoor braai (barbecue) facilities on the stoep (patio). Instead of TVs, we provide panoramic views and glorious birdsong during the day, and star-studded skies serenaded by owls and jackals at night.

Pet friendlyPet-friendliness

Pet Friendly Pet Friendly Scruffy on a SUP board

As animal lovers ourselves, we understand that not only people form part of your family, your pets do too. A holiday without them is like leaving your children behind (sometimes you need to, but most times you want them there!).

So, provided we have both agreed beforehand, please feel free to bring your pet when you come and stay with us – please also fully familiarise yourself with our Pet Policy (see “Terms and Conditions” section of our website) as by bringing your pet/s onto our property, it means that you agree to be bound by our Pet Policy and that you are fully responsible for your pet.

Pet-friendly means that we will treat your animals with the love and respect that we show our own animals. Pets are welcome within the cottages and to exercise and explore the farm – however they need to do so under supervision, both to protect other guests and their pets as well as your own pet (as this is a farm surrounded by natural vegetation, naturally your pets may encounter certain threats such as our pool, dam, snakes or birds of prey).

Our farm is however fully fenced and we have not had any negative experiences to date. On request, we can provide a dog bed and/or bowl.

Terms & conditions apply - please refer to our Pet Policy (.pdf 71kb)

Functions Venue

We offer a lovely function venue that caters up to 25 people. The venue includes the Khaya Karoo Pizza Bar, bar, pool and lapa. We can prepare pizzas and provide a bar service, or you can cater the function yourself.

The two cottages closest to the venue, Bokmakierie and Nonnetjie, must be booked along with the venue. You are welcome to book the other cottages too, of course. Contact us for a quote.

Functions need to be in keeping with the quiet and calm of the farm - although we appreciate festivities, we do not allow excessively loud or disorderly behaviour.

When the Pizza Bar is not being used for functions, other guests are also welcome to make use of these facilities (pizza oven, gas oven, wood-fired oven, board games etc).

Things to do

Our farm dam
Photography - the beautiful light, with its many moods through a day, is perfect for photography.
Hot water tub at the dam
Bath at the dam - wood-fired hot-tub alongside the dam which is available to all guests on a first-come, first served basis (there is a "hot tub in use" sign up the pathway to ensure privacy).
Kayak, paddle or swim in our lovely dam
Farm dam - just 100 m from the cottages. A kayak and stand up paddle board (SUP) are available, or take a dip in the cool waters.
Walkways around the dam for meandering, birdwatching and picnicking
Lapa with tables and braai pit at the dam. Meander around the dam, watch the Fish Eagles and waterbirds, picnic in the shade of the trees, or under our lapa.
Fish Eagle - photo by Francois Brits
Birding - at least 100 species recorded so far!
Pool Lapa - Lounge in the shade of the lapa and allow the magic of the mountains to do the rest.
Pool - Chill out at the pool on hot days, and enjoy the beautiful sunsets in the evenings.
Pizza oven and bar
Khaya Karoo pizza oven & bar - our "pizza bar" has an honesty bar and a pizza oven that guests are welcome to use. It also has a gas stove & oven and a wood-fired oven that guests can use for baking and roasting.
star gazing
Star-gazing - our clear Karoo skies and absence of ambient light afford excellent stargazing and astrophotography conditions.
Trails - quiet farm roads offer many excellent trails. We have a 5 km route for trail-runners and cyclists (mountain bikes available), and a 2 km walking trail.
Tractor trips
Tractor trips - on occasion, a tractor ride and a sundowner picnic and drinks may be arranged with the owners at additional cost (approx R275 per person), subject to the availability of the owners.
Function venue
Functions - we offer a lovely venue, and catering if required. See more under Functions.

If you are coming from the Cape Town side:

Drive through the town of Montagu - then from the "end" of Montagu you will cross the Kingna River bridge shortly after exiting the town, drive about 7.8 km to the Rietvlei No. 1 turnoff where you turn left. Drive 600 m on dirt road. Turn left where the road splits (onto tar). First gate on the right is us.

If you are coming from the Barrydale side:

Drive approx 53 km after leaving the small town of Barrydale - then take the SECOND Rietvlei No. 1 turnoff (i.e. you will see a 'Rietvlei No. 1' turnoff at around 51 km - ignore that one, take the next one) where you turn right. Drive 600 m on dirt road. Turn left where the road splits (onto tar). First gate on the right is us.
